I’m so excited to say that I’ve had two pieces accepted into the juried art show: “Blush 3” and my favorite from the series, “Blush 5.” They’re both for sale, but honestly, I’ll be rather sad to see them go.blush 3 1

Ooh! Did you notice? I also got to help with the design of the official poster! This year’s theme is “Reveal” so I chose to go with the themes of unfurling, and seeing. Here are some of the initial sketches.  reveal sketch 2 reveal sketch 3 reveal sketch 7 reveal sketch 9

Yay! I hope to see you there!!

twice sm“Twice.” Oil paint on paper, cut. Named after the Little Dragon Song, for an angsty art show at Twilight: FADE INTO YOU: an Artist’s Mixtape!

Opening night is Thursday, February 13th.

I found this paper during my last trip to the art supply store – it’s specially coated to handle oil paint, so I thought I’d give it a shot! After painting the figure, I hung the painting up on the wall to dry, that and I had no idea what I wanted to do to it next. This is usually where I’d start arranging fabric flowers and gluing them down, but for this one, it didn’t seem right. I didn’t want to cover up any of the painting, and the idea I wanted was not of something added, but something missing. For a while I thought of simply leaving the whole right side empty.

But that wasn’t right, either. When something’s missing, it’s not just a static emptiness, but more of a gnawing, moving, cutting sort of feeling. I’m out of practice with the Xacto, so I have a good blister now, but I think I’ll be doing more of this. twice detail

Twice I turn my back on you
I fell flat on my face but didn’t lose
Tell me where would I go
Tell me what led you on I’d love to know

Was it the blue night
Gone fragile
Was it about the men
In wonder steady gone under
Was it the light ways
So frightening
Was it a two wills
One mirror holding us dearer now

Thought I had an answer once
But your random ways swept me along
Colossal signs so I got lost
With so many lovers singing soft

Was it the blue night
Gone fragile
Was it about the men
In wonder steady gone under
Was it the light ways
So frightening
Was it a two wills
One mirror holding us dearer now

12 new little artworks – for a little art show!

black hole

I’ve been busy lately working on little paintings. I dropped them off today at Twilight Gallery for their miniature art show! The call for art is still open, till October 20th. I know you people are all sorts of artsy and talented, so submit away!! Do it. 🙂 black hole 2I’ve been experimenting on working with small cradled wood boards, sanding them smooth, adding pencil and acrylic, then finishing them with an acrylic sealer. This first one is called “Black Hole,” and these small wood boards are 4x4x1.” migraine

These next two are officially the smallest paintings I’ve ever done: “Lover 1” and “Lover 2.”

So, if I do say so myself, I think they are really adorable but the best thing about them is that the little canvases came with equally little frames! Check it!!

red wall

“Red Wall” – this one is quite larger at 8×10.” And named because red was my first choice for painting the bedroom (but I ended up going with a dark royal blue. Also awesome, but I still want to paint a room red).

tiny and stretch

These next three are called “Tiny Cuts 1” “Tiny Cuts 2” and “Tiny Cuts 3” – clockwise from top left.

Anyone else currently working on tiny art? I’d love to see it!

Blush 6 and Slumber Party – two new NSFW pieces for SEAF!

I found out a few days ago that I have four pieces accepted into this year’s Seattle Erotic Art Festival (Yay! Does an imaginary happy dance because I’m not the sort of person prone to actually breaking out into happy dances… yes, I’m boring). But yes – so exciting! Here is one of them, “Blush 6.”Image

And another, “Slumber Party.” …Much more innocent, a simple ink drawing.Image

Plumping up for winter (hibernation mode), AKA the winter habits of the work-at-home Artist

Yup, this is about the state of things in the home/studio lately. Except instead of berries, they’re chocolate-caramels and little puddles of coffee. Slightly more clothing is usually involved, and Downton Abbey has been playing in the background (along with some unhealthy hat envy).

Seriously. I’ll take them all, please.

I kid, I kid – it’s not that bad – I’m not quite that feral yet. Though lately, with the exception of my daily stroll to the post office I’ve been holing myself up from the grey, wet Seattle weather, and really settling into a hibernation of sorts. My daily ritual goes something like this:

Oh, sorry – not like that, like this:

  • cuddling
  • coffee
  • bath
  • email
  • music (pandora or or my small but treasured CD collection)
  • foraging for berries food
  • work (sketching, research, painting, post office run, getting distracted, finding myself staring off into space for embarrassingly long periods of time)
  • more coffee
  • {repeat last five steps, as often as necessary}
  • documentaries on le TV
  • reading (just finished Stiff, the Curious Lives of Human Cadavers by Mary Roach – awesome.)
  • cuddle cats
  • When N gets home, dinner and games {shooting skags, as you do}

So, that’s more or less my life lately – and, as Nick’s just walked in it’s time to move off of the list! What have you guys been doing lately?
