Seattle Erotic

Wow, busy weekend! The Seattle Erotic Art Festival opened this Friday, coinciding with the Fremont Fair. I’d never been before, so this was also the first time I witness the nude bicyclists that are a traditional part of the parade.

Both of my pieces at the festival sold the first day – thank you so, so much, my two buyers! I love you!!

Kevin and I were also available to take loss-of-virginity stories. SEAF runs all the way till next Sunday the 24th, so you still have lots of time to come check it out – tons of awesome artwork: 2D, 3D, interactive, film, spoken-word, performance and panels. Definitely try to make it out Friday and/or Saturday night. We will be there. :)

If you live in the area and have never been, do consider visiting the festival! It’s really something. Now in it’s 10th year, you’d never have guessed at how small it was starting out. It’s run by an awesome collection of passionate, hard-working people, and I feel really lucky to be a part of it.

Shy eyes look away!

Whew! Just completed five new pieces to submit to this year’s Seattle Erotic Art Festival. This year being their 10th anniversary, they’ll be bringing back several past artists and features (including the Virgin Project – yay) – and extending the event to span two weekends.

I wanted to create something really special this time around, and go with large, flowery, un-cartoony sexy drawings. Here are some pictures of the process, and detail shots. Currently called the “blush” series.

First step: research – super time consuming, you have no idea!

Second, cut LOADS of flowers,

Third: pencil drawing

This one is #5, which I wrapped up last night.

Fourth: watercolor, then ink for the hair

Fifth: place flowers, then glue down!

The next step will be finding suitable framing. I’m really hoping for shallow shadowboxes so I can float the drawings just so. I’ll keep you posted!

In other news, 10 days until the first day of spring!! And my turning 26! Yay!!

Cuts, blood, hair and flowers

We went into Il Corvo Pasta this morning to hang work for the Pike Hike Art Walk this Thursday, which runs from 5-8pm, to hang work and to watch the pasta master himself, Mike – bang out an army of artichoke raviolinis, some of which we were treated to for lunch, and they were amazing. I eat homemade pasta so rarely that I forget what a comforted, happy tummy it makes. The raviolini were served with fresh marjoram, roasted red peppers and garlic oil. Yum! We were also able to try the sage parpadelle, with lemon, cream and parmesan… so … my day has been fantastic! Thank you Mike!

I was able to get in some good drawing time today, so here they are:

Many little wounds

Thursday! Come see Mike make more pasta! And SEAF  is this weekend – if you’ve never been, you should definitely consider it. I’ll be there Friday night at least, mostly for people-watching, and you should be, too.

Virgin Project Vol. 2 Release! (and an excellent weekend)

Nick and I spent the weekend in Seattle to celebrate the fresh-off-the-press release of the Virgin Project Vol. 2!! Get yours here: Virgin Project 2!

Kevin and Grace threw an awesome book release party full of friends, family, Caribbean food and free-flowing wine. I got to meet some great people including Donna Barr, creator of the Desert Peach series, who wrote a wonderful review of the book here.

Kevin and I hosted a workshop at the Seattle Erotic Art Festival on Saturday, talked about the processes of story-collecting, editing, publication, and the social implications.

Later that evening we attended the Cartoonist’s Northwest Toonie Award Banquet.

“Authors KD Boze and Stasia Kato were honored to be recognized as Cartoonists of the Year for The Virgin Project at the annual awards ceremony of Cartoonists Northwest on May 1. They shared the Golden Toonie Award with Mark Monlux of Stick Man and Comic Critic fame . The Virgin Project also was named the Graphic Novel of the Year. And KD Boze also received the 2009 Best of the Northwest Award for individual cartoons. Thanks to all of our CNW friends!”
